Discarded

This weeks Friday Fictioneers 100 word ‘writing challenge’ for those who want to participate is the following photo prompt: _______________________________________

Discarded.

The rocky beach was his safe place. The place the ten-year-old came when they were fighting at home. Alone, he would sit on the pebbles, his back against a log and cry. This summer has been especially hard. Ever since his brother died, his parents drank constantly.

He felt forgotten, unimportant.rocky beach

He spotted a fragment of a wasp nest amid the pebbles. It too was useless and forgotten. The boy marveled at its perfection.  Discarded yet wonderfully made. He remembered the words his Grandmother used. “You are fearfully and wonderfully made” she would say as she hugged him. He smiled. He felt better knowing somebody loved him.

  1. Good tie in between “discarded” and the wasp nest – very emotional. I am glad the little boy remembered there was someone who was emotionally available to love him in the now.

I like going to the beach too when I am out of sorts.

    Thanks for visiting my blog!
